The sixth International Aerospace Congress IAC’09, devoted to the 75th anniversary from the date of birth of the First cosmonaut of the Earth Ju. A. Gagarin, took place in the New educational building of the Lomonosov Moscow State University on Sparrow Hills. 1100 representatives of 28 countries took the part in the Congress – they are prominent scientists and engineers, astronauts, heads of national aerospace agencies, firms, companies, members of state structures, students of technical institutes. In the Opening Ceremony of the Congress, which was taking place in the Big Conference hall of the Russian Federal Space Agency, took the part members of the top management of Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation, ministries and departments of the Russian Federation, members of official delegations of NASA, the European Space Agency, Space agencies of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Turkey, Kazakhstan etc., representatives of embassies in the Russian Federation of Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Iraq, Nigeria, Tunis, France, Switzerland, etc., noted Russian and foreign scientists, astronauts, statesmen who addressed with greetings to participants and visitors of the Congress.
The great interest of participants and visitors of the Congress was aroused by plenary meetings, one of which was devoted to prospects and plans of space researches of Russian Federal Space Agency, NASA, ESA and National Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where heads of these departments reported about realization of space programs of their countries. At the plenary meeting devoted to the 75th anniversary from the date of birth of Ju.A. Gagarin presided astronauts A.A. Leonov and Chief of the Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Center S.K. Krikalev. The plenary meeting held in the form of the Symposium and an exhibition were devoted to the centenary from the date of birth of the developer of the reusable spacecraft "Buran", outstanding Soviet and Russian engineer G.E. Lozino-Lozinsky. The subject area of one of plenary sessions was connected with the 50th anniversary of foundation of the Research Institute of Mechanics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The work of the Congress was held in 18 sections, where 870 speakers who presented 471 reports took the part in the meetings. The Congress’s sections covered all areas of the aerospace sphere, including both fundamental researches, engineering developments and manufacturing aspects. The meetings in sections were presided by the heads of sections – leading experts in the aerospace field. A number of reports caused debates and fruitful discussions. Students and post-graduate students of technical institutes took the part in the meetings of sections. The work of the Congress was covered by leading mass-media. On the Congress were accredited members of the broadcasting company "Civilization", magazines “Aviasoyuz”, "Integral", film studio "Grant". The editorial staff of the “Russian Engineering newspaper” published two special issues, devoted to the Congress.
